Energy: Its Source, Forms and Uses:

The top of the Energy Pyramid is, of course, Sunlight. It is the source, indirectly, of all the energy used by mankind in the past and present. Its central place and importance is likely to remain undiminished in the future.

However, sunlight in it's immediate form, is radiation or Radiant Energy, and has important but limited uses. Currently, commercially available technologies for utilization of direct sunlight are based on converting its radiant energy into heat, or into electricity either photovoltaically or by capturing its heat, converting the heat into kinetic energy, and finally, into electricty. For a variety of reasons, the direct usage of the energy in Sunlight represents only a small fraction of the energy used by mankind.

BioEnergy vs. Fossil Energy:

BioEnergy is created when "Mother Nature", with the assistance of living plants and soil chemicals, captures sunlight and stores it in the form of Chemical Energy in plants and, indirectly in animals, commonly referred to as "Biomass".  The BioEnergy in Biomass is constantly being Renewed in the natural cycle of life. It's efficient utilization is ultimately the most immediate hope of mankind to free itself from dependence on Fossil Fuels.

By way of contrast, the most common sources of energy in use today are petroleum, coal, and natural gas, commonly referred to as Fossil Fuels. Fossil fuels are the remains of ancient biomass. Fossil fuels are, by definition, finite in scope and highly problematic economically, environmentally, and in some instances, politically, in discovery, extraction and usage.

Thus, Pyramid BioEnergy's mission is to provide "An Alternative Path" by making Renewable BioEnergy viable as a practical and economically competitive substitue for Fossil Fuels in all their myriad forms and uses.

 It is the liberation and use of the Chemical Energy contained in Renewable BioEnergy which holds the promise of freeing America as well as all mankind from the many harmful effects of finding, extracting and using Fossil Fuels. It is the technological breakthroughs employed by Pyramid which will make accomplishment of this important mission possible.
