“We’ve embarked on the beginning of the Last Days of the Age of Oil.  Nations of the world that are striving to modernize will make choices different from the ones we have made.  They will have to.  And even today’s industrial powers will shift energy use patterns…[T]he market share for carbon-rich fuels will diminish, as the demand for other forms of energy grows.  And energy companies have a choice: to embrace the future and recognize the growing demand for a wide array of fuels; or ignore reality, and slowly – but surely – be left behind.”

Mike Bowlin, Chairman and CEO, ARCO, and
Chairman, American Petroleum Institute February 9, 1999

Mission Statement:

Pyramid BioEnergy's mission is to provide "An Alternative Path" to meeting America's energy needs by making Renewable BioEnergy viable as a practical and economically competitive substitue for Fossil Fuels in all their myriad forms and uses.

Founder's Vision

Pyramid BioEnergy was formed to capitalize on the singular and prescient vision of Ernett Altheimer.  Mr. Altheimer's long and distinguished career was characterized by energy, ambition, and foresight. That ability to envision "what might be" led to an interest in the role that purpose grown energy crops could play in our modern industrial economy. That curiosity led, in turn, to a vision of not only what could be, but what must be if our nation and economy is to continue to thrive and grow. The team he has assembled and the companies he has buiilt or dedicated to refining and giving substance to that vision.

Biomass to Ethanol

Our cutting edge technology will dramatically reduce our country’s dependency on foreign oil by producing ethanol from renewable energy sources at half the cost of all current domestic producers.  Our “Cleantech” enterprise is poised to upset current ethanol production technology by utilizing biomass feedstock to revolutionize the transportation fuel industry delivering the lowest cost ethanol in North America. Pyramid BioEnergy is party to related technology patents and we are currently acquiring additional related technology licenses for ethanol production.

Pyramid BioEnergy has assembled a strong program management team with extensive experience in capital construction, construction program management, energy, gas plant operations, pulping operations management, federal government and military base maintenance logistical support management, finance, marketing, accounting, business law, maintenance, engineering and associated technology.  Our program management team includes professionals with experience in design, construction and plant operations involving similar chemical and energy facilities.  Our executives have experience in large capital construction programs ranging from $200 million to $8 billion.  Supported by additional specialty consultants as necessary, will provide oversight management and technical direction to guide this capital construction program from concept through engineering and construction and into operation.

The national gasoline consumption last year was 138 billion gallons.  This requires 13.8 billion gallons of ethanol annually to make E10 fuel.  Current and announced ethanol production through 2008 is 13.4 billion gallons and is short meeting E10 levels.  E85 fuel would require 152 billion gallons of ethanol (as substitution at this level will require additional fuel due to the lower energy density of ethanol compared to gasoline).

Currently, the predominant production methods (dry milling and wet milling) are very similar to distilling alcoholic spirits from grain, typically corn (known as fermentation).  They essentially convert the sugars in certain biomass feedstock (sometimes augmented by acid hydrolysis) into alcohol.  This production method is capital and energy intensive and most studies conclude that the cost of manufacturing ranges from $0.85 to $1.25 per gallon.  On the other hand, cost of producing a gallon of ethanol with the proprietary catalytic ethanol reactor Pyramid BioEnergy will use, is expected to range from $0.45 to $0.65 per gallon.

Pyramid BioEnergy has identified the fundamental steps needed to construct and operate a successful low cost ethanol plant.  The plant will be strategically located and will have an adequate supply of feedstock.  The plant will be competitive because of its cutting edge technology and abundant, inexpensive feedstock.
